The Admiral Rodney in Loxley is a country pub & restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character. Picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing the bar.

The Admiral Rodney was built during the 1950's, next to the site of another pub called The Rodney, which was demolished at the time. The pub is named after an old local hero, George Brydges Rodney who as an admiral defeated a Spanish fleet in 1780 and a French fleet at the Battle of the Saints in 1782.

With stunning views on the edge of a valley, The Admiral Rodney is a great destination. A cosy retreat, the inn is a good base from which to plan a day in beautiful countryside.

This is a lovely place for a nice meal, it has loads of character and some amazing views if you sit outside in the garden area. I have been here a few times to eat and the menu is seasonal and very well put together with lots of choice.

My last visit here was with my 2 year old god daughter Daisy and her mum Helen as a lunch time treat, children are welcome and well catered for the children's menu had a lot of variation away from the average chicken nuggets and chips which is fantastic as Daisy is very into her food and likes to make her own choices.

Myself and Helen had a glass of wine each and decided to have a few starters and sides to share rather than a large meal each, Daisy opted for a pot of tea, melon boat for her starter and sausages and mash for her main + desert.

With the 3 starters, 2 sides, 3 course children's menu and drinks the bill came to 56 pounds which may sound a lot but the quality of the food and service we received was excellent and well worth it for lovely time in a beautiful setting.

We went at lunch time but I have been here a fw times as mentioned in the evenings with the real fire and cosy restaurant its the perfect place for a romantic meal or a nice family meal for a special occasion.

my advice is give it a try take your time there its a nice place to relax and the staff never make you feel rushed at all.

Pros & Cons

Pros
lovely place

Just a short way out of the busy streets of Hillsborough this pub stands proud in the relative countryside of Loxley Valley.

The building itself is impressive and large with an array of different style tables and chairs scattered about.

A large car park is ideal for drinking the short way from the city to get the impressions of a nice country style pub.

Outdoor seating is available with impressive views over the valley - great for summer drinks and al-fresco eats.

The service is pleasant and the food is exceptional with a good selection across starters, mains and desserts.

Lunchtimes have a great bargain menu too - with a choice of 1, 2 or 3 courses from a selected menu for good price points.

Pricing is a little above average but once you've eaten the quality will justify the cost and you'll probably come back again and again.
