Formerly The Castle Inn, this traditional local has stood the test of time and refreshed into a lovely relaxed pub.

Offering a range of entertainments, including one of the best Jam nights in the city, to go with its great range of drinks The Castle is definitely an up-and-coming venue for those who don't already frequent.

The infamous 'snooker room' at the back of the bar is welcoming and you can relax to watch Sky Sports News. Alternatively, take a break in the outside patio area.

Try out some food with the popular 'Fryday' Fish night.

The Castle is a traditional 'local', recently refurbed (in the last couple of years).

The first impression is that it's small! Even though they've done a job in removing one of the tiny side rooms to make a bigger bar area, and repositioned the bar to the back of the room as you walk in (it used to be a tiny bar at the side!).

One of the smaller rooms still remains (on the left as you walk in).

In all the refurbishment is a good job though, thoroughly modernising what was a dated and tired pub.

The 'snooker room' remains behind the bar area and shows live sports on TV.

There's an outside area too - although this is not much either! But enough for the smokers. :)

When it comes into its own is for the regular Jam nights and live music - although it's small and gets absolutely crammed, the atmosphere massively improves and the music is generally of a very high standard. Bank holidays are a must!

Also a fantastic stopping-off point preparing for a night out, whether walking into Hillsborough or grabbing a bus/taxi into the city.

Small, but well formed
