Sandwiched between Norfolk Street and Tudor Square, this large pub is a popular venue for food, drink and sports events on TV.

Whether having a pint before taking in a show at the nearby Crucible and Lyceum Threatres, or grabbing some food to watch sport on one of the many TVs around the venue, The Old Monk is a good option.

Showing all the popular Sky Sports events, from football to rugby or tennis to golf, you can sit and relax with a good pint and friends.

The menu offers a good selection of starters, sides and mains, plus you get a good quantity for a value price.

All the usual drinks are available from lagers to beers, wines and spriits. Plus all the bottles.

A great place to grab a beer and watch the footy, an easy meeting place for afterwork drinks, plenty of seating and tables unless theres a huge event on or the lyceum/ crucible have a big show on but there is always plenty of places to stand and the amount of large and small screens they have you can always see.

The food is basic burgers, fish and chips and sandwiches, the price reflects the food cheep but its exactly what it says on the tim and is always hot and cooked how it should be so for something to tide you over and soak up some beer its fine.

There are pool tables to the rear of the pub and the average 2 bandits and a quiz machine, this pub really is a pub with no airs and graces.

My advice you want sport in the city centre go here loads of space, the beer and food is reflective of being a footy pub and theres always plenty of space and screen to view on. The staff are pleasant and the service is quick and friendly.

The Monk is a great venue to get together and celebrate sport - whether it is the World Cup, Wimbledon, Olympics, Rugby or whatever, it's bound to be on one of the screens here!

There's several screens around the pub, allowing for different sports to be shown on different ones if there's a clash.

To top it off, there's a massive screen that comes down in front of the windows at the front, allowing for a cinema-style experience and improving the atmosphere loads on a big game night!

Drinks are varied and a decent price to match the selection.

Food is available too, although its not gourmet, it is of a decent quality - and plenty of quantity too! Pricing for the food options is good and there's plenty of options to mix-and-match if you want a few 'nibbles' between a group

The place can get busy, especially on nights of popular shows at the Crucible or Lyceum, bit it's big enough to handle it.

In summer there's the option of sitting outside in Tudor Square too - well worth a stop off to get about as close to a European square bar experience as you might get in this country.
