The best Indian restaurant in Sheffield? Many would say so!

Butlers has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a little cafe by the University roundabout. The greasy spoon, once visited by Picasso, eventually changed to one of the first authentic curry houses in Sheffield and thus one of the biggest names in Sheffield curry. Ever-evolving, the famous balti house moved down the road to its current location. On the way, Butlers took the opportunity to upclass itself - out went the laminated cafe tables and in came the stylish surroundings with glazed finish and a real polish.

Thankfully, the food retained its tasty, authentic nature and the ever-more popular Butlers Balti House remains one of the most recommended Indian restaurants in the city.

Been here a few times and its my fave place to grab a curry, the food is authentic and freshly cooked the choices on starters mains and sides gives both meat lovers and veggies loads to go at.

It doesn't look much from the outside but inside has been done really nicely, clean with really good lighting and furnishings its comfortable and even when busy you don't feel rushed or pushed into a corner.

They have a private glass panelled area for big tables and parties so even though your separate the glass stops the noise and lets you feel like your still part of the main restaurant. The menu is laid out with really detailed english descriptions which I really appreciate, the break down of whats in what gives you the confidence to try new things that you sometimes wouldn't in other restaurants just from the dishes title.

Weather its just you and one other or group of you this place is great, the service is quick and friendly and as mentioned the food is freshly cooked with plenty of taste and choice.

for 2 of us for starters, mains, sides, breads and a couple of drinks was just under 30 quid but you don't have to spend that much we had food left over but you could share nan and rice if you have the same tastes which would ring the price down.

give it a try and ask about the art work in the reception area - it comes with a really interesting story xx
