Established in 1968, Mama's and Leonies was the very first Pizzeria to open in the area and has become a staple of Sheffield.

Made with fresh produce daily, the Italian and European flavoured menu offers something for everybody.

Regularly visited by famous people and celebrities - from thesps performing their latest shows at the nearby Crucible and Lyceum theatres, to sports personalities and business people.

Mama's and Leonies claim to have purveyed more pizzas than any other restaurant in Sheffield: "If you were to place every pizza created at Mama's on top of each other, you would not just be looking at the most varied pizza, but a construction higher than the famous Leaning Tower of Piza!"

The first time I ate here was 4 years ago and I was blown away, the relaxed environment and friendly staff along side an open kitchen and good quality food really sold this place as a small family restaurant with big portions and big flavours.

I have never stopped visiting since then, however in the last year I feel a little disappointed, I don't know if the owners have changed or the chef or just like everywhere else costs have been cut but the quality of the food has really suffered.

The portion size have always been huge which is fantastic but can also be really off putting if the quality is bad, something as simple as changing the bread rolls for the burgers to a cheeper version - as a customer I would have preferred less salad and fries to keep the quality of the bread and meat at the previous high standard.

With the portion size its hard to order 2/3 courses, you just can't finish which must have a massive impact on there wastage too.

On a more positive note i wouldn't want to put anyone off and in all honesty the place is good and busy and I really hope it continues, I just feel if you need to cut costs these guys really need to be careful which areas they are concentrating on.

I will keep eating here I hope they can get back to where there were 2012 on the quality front as the venue is lovely and really has a great atmosphere, the staff are cracking and the prices they charge are brilliant for the portion you get.

I am looking forward to the day I can come and refresh this review and increase the score I love this place and it would be my pleasure to put the quality score up so fingers crossed.

My Advice - Go give it a try let me know how you get on and what you think, you will have a good meal in a nice place with good service I can't wait to change that to Excellent mean in a nice place with good service .
