Footage shows the PC World manager apparently lashing out with his arm whilst saying “do you want me to break your phone?” He can be heard during the video shouting at the customer to leave the store after seemingly calling him a 'jackass'.
Martyn Bailey was returning his broken Sony Vaio laptop to the store yesterday but was unhappy with the offer of the machine being sent away for repair when he wished for an exchange.
When he struggled to get a satisfactory resolution Mr. Bailey recorded the conversation on his mobile phone.
The manager, known only as ‘Matt’ from the audio, seemed to get heated when Mr. Bailey informed him the conversation had been recorded and he intended to upload it to the internet, saying “here’s the laptop, there’s the door, if you’re going to be like that get out.”
Mr. Bailey believed he heard ‘Matt’ call him a jackass as he was leaving the store and tried to bring him to task about it. At this point you can hear the manager raise his voice, shouting “leave the store now!”
Soonafter the customer saw the PC World employee in the car park of the Meadowhall Retail Park store and attempted to confront him again, this time on video.
As Mr. Bailey approached, the employee can be seen turning to approach the customer. Its at this point ‘Matt’ makes the offer to break the phone and appears to reach out with his arm. The video cuts off as the phone is seemingly hit.
On the YouTube video description Mr. Bailey says: "Return a £1,000 Sony Vaio laptop (yes, £1,000) and get abuse, then attacked. Yes, attacked."
Whilst the video itself lasts for just four minutes, sources told We Love Sheffield the situation lasted much longer and may not be representative of the full facts. We understand that police may be investigating allegations of the customer assaulting the employee.
When contacted, a spokesperson for Dixons Retail Group said: "We are investigating this alleged incident as a matter of urgency."
