When the girls at work told me they had been to a “all you can eat buffet” I listened with half an ear, all you can eat sounds great but in my experience they rarely are, in the past I have had good food but very limited choice or rubbish food and loads of it. So when they continued to go say how new and clean this place was with good variation and fresh food I started to listen a bit more. They recommended I try it myself so I did and here’s how it went.
Situated in what seems to be the new food quarter of Sheffield, St Pauls Place near the winter gardens is central with good public transport access and plenty of parking having the cheese grater car park right on top of it.
We looked at booking over the weekend however the web site said no availability and as it was raining outside the windows of our lovely Sheffield home we decided to stay in and go a different day, arriving at work Monday morning I had planned to book in for that evening, I went onto the website and grabbed the number and also saw a voucher for 2for1 running for the next couple of weeks. Excellent – It took me over an hour to get through if the phone wasn’t just ringing until it lost connection it was engaged, annoying? A little however this place as became clear has rocketed and at the end of the day you can only answer the phone and deal with a certain amount of people all at once. When I did get through the receptionist was polite, obviously very organised and booked me straight in that evening for a table for 2 at 18.30 happy days. To use my voucher I was to make them aware on the call which I did however I hadn’t read the small print (which in fairness was not that small) that you had to give 24 hours’ notice when using, when the receptionist learnt I had a voucher she politely offered to book us in at a later date when we could use it and let me know that the voucher had also been extended so it could be used for longer than the date stated. It was done in such a professional way I took the table that evening, impressed enough to commit to a full price and safe in the knowledge if it was as good as they were saying I would use my voucher at a later date.
On arrival we realised just how busy it was, early as always we arrived just after 18.00 reception area was busy with people coming through and letting reception know they had arrived – again very polite and organised, we were pointed towards a small bar area with not very much seating at all and for the size of the restaurant (over 100 seats at a guess)I did question where everyone was going to sit/stand whilst waiting but again (organised) we ordered a drink at the bar was served almost straight away and by the time we had a couple of sips there was someone there ready to take us to our table.
The place was busy but really well spaced so you didn’t feel like cattle, it has lovely décor and the staff were all in uniform and all look and behaved wonderfully, shortly after sitting our server came to check we had drinks which we did, she asked if this was our first visit, it was and she explained the way it worked, help yourself to any food you like, explained there were different staffed stations that you were welcome to use also. She was clear and professional and said if there was anything else we needed to speak with any member of staff and they would be happy to help.
We sat for a moment and got our bearings and then set off to see what was on offer, I can honestly say I have never seen such variation; we started with one of the staffed stations where a chef was cooking fresh teppanyaki (excuse my spelling if any of this is incorrect lol) out of 5 different items there was a sign indicating you to make a choice of 2 and return , we both opted for steak and scallops which was then cooked fresh in front of us, it only took a couple of minutes and really added to the experience, other options included salmon, king prawn and chicken. Both the steam and scallops were cook perfectly and delicious. Making our way around there was Mexican, spit roasted meats, Indian, Thai, Chinese, Italian, soups and deserts a plenty.
I ate a huge variation of food, throughout and all of it was absolutely amazing, it was clean fresh and high quality I truly cannot pick fault with anything which is rare for me cause I do like to find fault if it can be found.
There were plenty of staff constantly milling around and when we needed a refill on drinks they were served within minutes of asking, even the loos were clean and well maintained.
All in all we had 2 all you can eat, 2 pints of Carlsberg and a soft drink which you can fill and refill at the drinks stations as many times as you like for no extra cost the total bill came to £39.00 which I thought was more than reasonable for the quantity and quality of what we had. I think I would have actually felt bad if I had used the voucher and had £15 taken off that bill, I was happy to pay every penny. They even had fizzy vimto on tap happy days.
My advice get yourself a voucher printed off, book well in advance and wear something with a stretchy waist band, because its good and you will eat yourself daft.
They cater for small tables and huge party bookings, I have never been to an all you can eat quite like it but I will be going again soon, very soon.
Get in and have a go and let me know what you thought, its new and they have started so well, I hope they maintain the service and the quality, they will deffo keep a lot of repeat customers very happy if they do.
